Winter League teams meet next Tuesday
Updated: Jun 18
The teams still interested in being part of the first season of the new Winter League are to hold a virtual meeting on Tuesday 16 June.
From the original group of 10 teams that expressed an interest in joining the League, Almondbury Lib have withdrawn their team with fears of not being able to raise a full team of 4 due to member concerns about their safety due to the coronavirus.
The other 9 teams - Huddersfield Recreation Club (2 teams), Lowerhouses, Denby Dale, Marsh Utd, Springwood, Kirkheaton Con, Meltham and Milnsbridge - have all confirmed their commitment to the new League and will hold a Tele-Conference to discuss some basic areas where decisions need to be made.
The League hopes to be in action by no later than mid-October, possibly early September, if there is a relaxation of some of the rules around social distancing and numbers allowed on the green at any one time.
Currently there are no plans to seek a replacement team for Almondbury Lib and until the lockdown rules are relaxed it is impossible to progress the League formation. Once the impact of a Phase 3 situation has been assessed it may open the door to more teams.
