New Nationwide lockdown rules introduced
Updated: Sep 22, 2020
Late last night the Government outlined new lockdown rules across the country that come into effect from next Monday.
The new rules are quite far-reaching but at first glance it would seem that we will still be safe to go ahead with our Winter League fixtures as planned with team sports exempt from the new limit of six-people gatherings. Further details are to be announced later today but the meeting of all teams scheduled for next Tuesday looks to be very much in doubt now.
The BBC reports on the changes thus:
Social gatherings of more than six people will be illegal in England from Monday - with some exemptions - amid a steep rise in coronavirus cases.
The legal limit will be reduced from 30 in the prime minister's biggest coronavirus crackdown since lockdown rules were eased.
A new legal limit will ban larger groups meeting anywhere socially indoors or outdoors, No 10 said.
But it will not apply to schools, workplaces or Covid-secure weddings, funerals and organised team sports.
It will be enforced through a £100 fine if people fail to comply with police, doubling up to a maximum of £3,200.
The new rule applies to private homes, indoors and outdoors, and places such as bars and cafes
We await further details promised for later today and will update the website as information about the changes becomes available.
