Four club's Centenary celebrations halted
Updated: Jul 1, 2020
At least four of the clubs playing in the Veteran's League should be celebrating their 100 year anniversaries in 2020 but there is very little to celebrate. How can you celebrate a bowling clubs birthdate when you aren't bowling?
Those four clubs, who all started out in 1920, are Bradley & Colne, Denby Dale, Lowerhouses and Thongsbridge. The listing below shows the latest update on dates when clubs were first formed and the two most recent additions are Denby Dale and Kirkheaton Cricket & Bowling Club. Thank you to Pat Wright and Alan Stephenson respectively for that information.
The bowling half of Kirkheaton C&BC played it's first match v Dalton Liberal Club on 30 May 1903. The Cricket Club had already been in existence for 20 years by then after being first formed in 1883 so they have already celebrated their 100 years anniversary.
I'm still looking for the missing opening dates of nine club greens listed in the table below. If you can fill in any of the gaps I would be really pleased to hear from you. Contact Us
