In all divisions many teams have remarkable home records and often reverse performances away from home. I’ve mentioned elsewhere that my Club, Lindley B.C. is a perfect example losing only one home game last season but couldn’t win away ‘ for toffee’. We were below mid table but always knew we had very little chance of being relegated because we always ‘ fancied ourselves at home’.
The same applies to many bowlers who are almost invincible at home but when you look at their away results they are far inferior. You see in some matches when the away player is struggling that some give up and lose to single figures.
Why do you get these outstanding home performances by teams and individual bowlers ?
Is it because all greens have their tricky parts which away bowlers are not aware of ? , or, simply that the home bowler is so experienced on his home green that he finds it easy? So, in trying to even things up a bit , why not award the team winning away from home an extra point? or even 2 points?
would it produce more competitive games? would it produce closer league tables? ( I haven’t checked this based on last season’s tables )
dare I say , would it produce a push for away teams to be allowed say 15 minutes practice before the start of a game - as raised elsewhere on this web site?
What do others think of the pros and cons of this?
